FoodFile

In the User Interface Design course I took in my Fall 2019 semester at College of Charleston, I partnered with two other students from my class to create the concept and prototype for FoodFile, an app that would allow users to catalog and track the food in their kitchens.

Throughout the semester, we worked towards the ultimate goal of creating a high-fidelity prototype of our app idea. We practiced each step of creating a smartphone application with the user in mind: describing our projected userbase, creating user personas and user scenarios, creating a conceptual model, creating a hierarchical task analysis, etc. From these steps, we went on to create a low-fidelity prototype which we tested on other classmates, made adjustments, and went on to create our high-fidelity prototype in Figma.

In retrospect, I definitely think there were some things we could have done differently—the design could have been tweaked to be a bit sleeker and more modern, and I would have liked to further explore the social/sharing aspects—but overall I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project, and am proud of our results.

For our final for this class, we were to create a video demonstrating our app’s capabilities and persuading “investors” (our other classmates) to buy into it. I cut and edited this video myself, and was delighted when our app got the most “investments” of the class.
